The 10th Annual meeting for Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA) was this year held in Kigali, Rwanda, from 20th– 21st June, 2019. It was run under the theme “Effectively Leading Universities in the Context of ICT and Digitization of Higher Education in East Africa”
Universities and higher education institutions have been increasingly embracing technology in their transactions such as teaching and learning, management, communication and financial services. Some universities now have automated the way to do business by adopting University Management Systems (UMS), subscribing to e-resources, and setting up eLearning platforms for academic programmes.
These efforts are however hampered by many constraints such as poor internet connectivity and low penetration, limited technical know-how in ICT, and negative attitude towards technology-aided-education. It is for the above reasons therefore, that the theme was selected and our very own Vice Chancellor, Prof John F. Mugisha served as a panelist and shared a successful “Blended Distance Learning” experience in Cavendish University Uganda.
