CUU Community Health Day 2023

In an inspiring display of community dedication, Cavendish University Uganda (CUU) hosted the second edition of its annual Community Health Day on Saturday, September 30th, 2023. This remarkable event marked a triumphant return after the inaugural edition held in 2019, pre-dating the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under theme, “Health for All – University Action for Improving Urban Health,” this event demonstrated CUU’s unwavering commitment to community well-being, environmental sustainability, and civic engagement.

The day unfolded with a plethora of engaging activities, featuring a Health Camp that offered essential services ranging from health screenings, including HIV and Malaria testing, to BMI and blood pressure measurements. Expert counselors were on hand to provide guidance and sensitization to the community. A commendable highlight was the Community Clean-up initiative, which rejuvenated the Lukuli-Kirombe Zone of Makindye Division.

Gracing the occasion as the esteemed Chief Guest was Dr. Richard Kabanda, Commissioner of Health Services, Health Promotion, Education, and Disease Prevention at the Ministry of Health, representing Dr. Henry G. Mwebesa, Director General of Health Services.

Dr. Kabanda’s address underscored the significance of mutually beneficial relationships between the university and local communities. He emphasized the potential for applied research and community-driven solutions to address prevalent challenges. The Community Health Day attracted robust participation from dedicated staff, students, Local Council members, and representatives from the Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA).
