The Inaugural Times Higher Education (THE) sub-Saharan Africa University Rankings released on 26th June 2023, placed Cavendish University in 05th position in Uganda and 61-70 in Africa.

The sub-Saharan Africa University Rankings were developed specifically to assess the impact of universities in addressing some of the toughest challenges faced in the region. The rankings were based on extensive research. The criteria used for the evaluation were rigorous and comprehensive, taking into account various factors such as; teaching, research and societal impact.

The top 5 Universities included; University of Witwatersrand (South Africa), University of Johannesburg (South Africa), Muhimbili University of Health & Allied Sciences (Tanzania), University of Pretoria (South Africa) and Makerere University (Uganda) respectively. Makerere University ranked 1st in Uganda.

The development work for the ranking was undertaken in consultation with university leaders across Sub-Saharan Africa. This was a project initiated by a consortium of African and international higher education organisations and companies, which include Botho, Maverick and Mycos. The project was led by Ashesi University in Ghana, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, while Times Higher Education independently managed all data collection and calculations.

Cavendish University’s position in these rankings is a testament to CUU’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and social impact.
