Cavendish University Uganda outshines Makerere University at Haradali Open, 2019- East Africa’s Premiere Women Debate Championship.



The Debate team of Cavendish University Uganda (CUU) participated in the first ever East Africa’s Women Debate Championship – Haradali Open. The Debate tournament took place at Strathmore University in Nairobi, Kenya from 09th – 12th October, 2019.

The competition brought together 38 teams from 28 Universities across East Africa. Uganda was represented by Cavendish University, Makerere University & IUIU.

Cavendish University emerged 4th out of the 38 competing teams, having trounced Makerere University in the semi-finals. CUU was also ranked the best University in Uganda during the competitions.

Africa’s Leadership University from Rwanda emerged winners of the Debate Championship and Strathmore University scored second place upon the final motion, “Should Privileged women turn down affirmative action?”

Cavendish University continued to stand out as one of our students, Collins Mbulakyalo was declared the ‘Best Adjudicator‘ for which he was awarded a certificate and a medal. All other participants were awarded certificates of merit.

The CUU Debate team was thereafter treated to a scrumptious dinner by Maarifa Executives (owners and sponsors of CUU) to celebrate their victory.
