Cavendish University Uganda hosts prestigious IEEE Distinguished Lecture



Cavendish University Uganda had the privilege to host Dr. Akihiko Sugiyama, a renowned project researcher at Yahoo! Japan Research Corporation to deliver a Distinguished Lecture for IEEE on Wednesday 14th August, 2019. Dr. Sugiyama is in charge of audio and speech signal processing.

IEEE is the world’s largest professional association for the advancement of Technology. Cavendish University Uganda is among the Institutions that work in close collaboration with its section in Uganda to ensure that our Science and Technology students are equipped with innovative skills for a better tomorrow.

The IEEE Distinguished Lecture which was focused on “Easy and Technical writing for engineers and scientists”, attracted high profile guests from various institutions among whom were;

  1. The Vice President of the Uganda Institution of Professional Engineers (UIPE), Engineer Dr. Mark Henry Rubarenzya.
  2. The President of IEEE Uganda Section, Mr. Vincent Olema.
  3. The Vice President of IEEE Uganda Section & Head of Department Engineering, Kyambogo University, Mr. Roland Niwareeba.
  4. The Dean of ICT & Engineering, ISBAT University, Dr. Hermant Purohit.
  5. The Managing Director, Africell.

The guest speakers included Prof Zake Muwanga, the Faculty Dean of Science and Technology who led members into a discussion of how to harness ICTs in Uganda Higher Education and Eng. Dr. Mark Henry Rubarenzya who discussed the skills required in the 21st Century for professional development.

The event was a fruitful discussion and Cavendish University Uganda was selected to host the IEEE Day celebrations to be held on 08th October, 2019.
