CUU Journalism students annually participate in the National Media Challenge competitions where they are trained to become the next generation journalists by equipping them with the knowledge and tools for solution-based reporting.
This year, three of our students managed to walk away with Awards on the evening of 24th November, 2019 at Serena Hotel, Kampala. The theme of the challenge was, “Reporting on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction in Uganda and Africa”.
The Media Challenge Awards are organised by the Media Challenge Initiative (MCI) as a means of honouring and celebrating individuals and organisations doing exceptional work in the media industry in Uganda. The awards recognise the best of student journalism and mainstream media.
CUU awardees included; Faith Kemigisha who was awarded for the Best Business news story, Ruth Omar for the Best Technology news story and Sandra Rachel Cope for the Best Climate change feature story.
Among the other beneficiaries of awards was Flavia Tumusiime, an Alumna of Cavendish University Uganda who received “The Rosemary Nakabirwa Best Female News Anchor Award”. This award recognises a female news anchor who represents a nexus of all the elements of news presentation and was named in memory of the former meticulous news anchor, Rose Mary Nankabirwa. The award goes to a female news anchor identified by media students as the best engaging news presenter in the English language category.
