2022 CUU Women’s Day Celebrations



Each year an annual International Women’s Day theme is celebrated globally and continues all year long to unify direction and stimulate activity. The theme this year was, “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow,” and the campaign was centered around the hashtag #BreaktheBias.

At Cavendish University Uganda (CUU), a staff engagement was organised to commemorate the Women’s Day celebrations on 09th March 2022 under the theme; Career Transition and Retirement.”

During his keynote address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John Francis Mugisha highlighted different career phases from career entry to career exit and encouraged the audience to choose work that they would do even if they were not getting paid. “Passion is the difference between having a job and having a career,” he said.

The University through the Human Resource Office also invited three Industry experts to engage staff on the same subject. These included; Ms. Joan Mugenzi, the Founding President of the International Coaching Federation- Uganda Charter Chapter, Mr. Charles Okurut, the Human Resources & Business Development Manager, Octagon Uganda Ltd and Ms. Hamidah Kibirige, the Chief Operating Officer, East African Partners.

Ms. Joan Mugenzi remarked that staff have a role to play in their own career progress and call upon attendees to self-discover and identify a passion for profit.

Mr. Okurut Charles shed more light on the importance of life savings. “The best time to start saving is now for a fairly comfortable retirement.” He submitted.

Ms. Hamidah Kibirige expounded on the need to invest in social networks, cohesive financial planning, and harnessing of skills as individuals prepare for retirement.

To crown the event, all-female staff were treated to a gift hamper each to celebrate their valued contribution to the University.
