CUU Annual Law Dinner-2023



The Cavendish Annual Law Dinner of 2023 was an evening to remember. Held on May 6th at Royal Suites hotel in Bugolobi, the event was organised by the Cavendish Law Society under the theme, “Prospects and Opportunities in the Current Justice System: Strategies and Success Stories for the 21st Century Law Student.”

The dinner was attended by over 100 guests, including notable figures such as Prof. John Francis Mugisha, the Vice Chancellor of Cavendish University Uganda (CUU), Dr. Daniel Ruhweza, a Lecturer of Law at Makerere University, Prof. Omolade Olomola, Dean of the Faculty of Law at CUU, and Dr. Chidinma Therese, Lecturer of Law at CUU.

The Chief Guest for the evening was Hon. Justice Mike Chibita, Justice of the Supreme Court of Uganda and patron of the Cavendish Law Society (CLS).

At the event, several awards were given to outstanding students in different categories including two new awards that were introduced this year and will be annually presented, namely; the Justice Mike Chibita Award and the Prof. Omolade Olomola Award. The former will be given to the student who has best represented the law society and the university, while the latter will be awarded to the outgoing Law Society President.

In addition to the awards ceremony, the evening was filled with inspiring speeches from the Chief Guest, Vice Chancellor, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Dr Daniel Ruhweza and student representatives from the Law society. The Chief Guest, Justice Chibita reminded the attendees that, “respect can take you anywhere, even if you study law and complete, always be kind and respectful.” The Vice Chancellor encouraged the law students to work hard, be consistent, and apply the skills they have learned at CUU while the Dean of the Faculty of Law urged the students to take advantage of the vastness of the law industry.

The night was also filled with entertainment, including performances by Levixone, a Ugandan gospel musician.
