Public Taxi Uganda, an application developed by Cavendish University students qualified for the 2019 Hult Prize Regional Summit early this year. The App is the latest innovation designed to improve safety and security of communal taxi users in the country.
The brains behind this innovation are four Cavendish students led by Kenneth Muhereza, who is under the Faculty of Science and Technology and on the Distance Learning Programme. Over 40 university teams across the globe qualified for the Regional finals in Nairobi, and Uganda was represented by 4 universities which included; Cavendish University, Kabale University, Makerere University and International University of East Africa.
The final competitions will be held in September 2019 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City and the winner will walk away with a $1 million prize which is equivalent to about UGX 3.7 billion.
