The London Marathon is the world’s biggest annual fundraising event, with more than 40,000 people taking part each year. Runners can join the 26.2 miles race from anywhere and can even participate virtually. More than 350,000 people entered the ballot to take part in this year’s race which will take place on Sunday 02 October 2022.
Our own Anthony Bonnett, Director Real Estate and Facilities Management| Maarifa Education our funders, will represent Cavendish University Uganda in the London Marathon 2022 where he will join a crash of enthusiastic partners running an incredible 26.2 miles to help protect endangered rhinos in Africa and Asia.
Participants will run from Greenwich Park, through the heart of London and finish with huge cheers on The Mall.
Different charities are awarded places by the London Marathon organisers to distribute to fundraisers as they see fit. Usually, charities will ask applicants to commit to raising a certain amount of money for their chosen cause, usually around £2,000.
Since 1992, Save the Rhino has had a team in the London Marathon every year, and it is one of the biggest charity teams: with more than 50 guaranteed Golden Bond places each year, as well as more individuals that join the race with their own ballot places.
Rhino Runners 2022 will raise awareness and valuable funds for rhino conservation in support of Save the Rhino International’s mission to help all five rhino species thrive in the wild.
The world’s rhino species are currently facing major threats to their survival. Extensive poaching for rhino horn, habitat loss and the growing challenge of climate change continue to threaten the survival of this iconic species.
