Master of Information Technology (MIT) Degree Programme provides an opportunity for prospective students to undertake training in IT and its application in business processes, at a master’s degree level in Uganda and beyond. The programme focuses on information technologies such as ICT for development & Innovation, Web Application Engineering, Data Analytics and Visualization, data mining and data warehousing etc. with an emphasis on their application in the practical world. The courses delivered in this curriculum will also have a strong research and development bias to address the continuously changing societal needs. The programme aims at providing an enduring foundation for future professional and academic growth. This programme will further enhance competencies in technology innovations in various sectors such as health, business, education, agriculture, and government.
Master of Information Technology (MIT) will be hosted at the Faculty of Science and Technology in the Department of Information Technology. The programme runs for two academic years comprising of four (4) semesters.
Students in the MIT degree Programme are required to take three semesters of coursework for those on plan B and one semester of a Dissertation/project and those on plan A are required to take two semesters of coursework and two semesters of thesis/project. The minimum graduation load is 70 credit units. The Master of Information Technology MIT is a two-year day or evening or online degree programme. Its aim is to prepare postgraduate students capable of having relevant skills to bridge the gap and achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (1, 4, 5) that is, students after this course will be able to leave self-reliant lives, demonstrate quality education and respond to gender equality education issues in Africa. Also, this programme will produce ICT experts to enable the government of Uganda to realize its objectives or Vision 2040 as an overall total of 27,198 ICT experts are required according to Third National Development Plan (NDPIII). Only 10,619 are available in the country leaving a gap of 16,619 IT experts. So, for that matter, this programme will be a source of competent human resources who are able to articulate theories and practices that underpin Information Technology, apply theoretical Information Technology with an emphasis on data modelling, information processing, Information technology strategy formulation in business organizations, e-commerce development, and management of Information technology resources and personnel.
