Master of Public Health (MPH)

Uganda and the global community are entering a new era of public health characterized by pandemics, rising non-communicable diseases, health emergencies, demographic transitions, and the demand for evidence-based decision-making.

This MPH responds directly to these shifts by training graduates with competencies aligned to national development priorities and global health agendas. The Master of Public Health (MPH) program is a dynamic and multidisciplinary graduate degree designed to prepare students for leadership roles in public health. The program provides a strong foundation in core public health principles while allowing students to specialise in areas that align with their interests and career goals. Through rigorous coursework, practical experience, and research opportunities, students develop the skills necessary to address the emerging and remerging health challenges at the local, national, and global levels.

The programme is anchored in:

  • Uganda Vision 2040
  • NDPIII (2020/21–2024/25)
  • Universal Health Coverage (UHC)
  • Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
  • Global Health Security Initiatives

Students who will graduate from this MPH program will be well-prepared for careers in public health practice, research, policy, and education. They can work in various settings, including government agencies, non-governmental organisations, healthcare institutions, and academic and research institutions. The program’s specialisations offer a pathway to expertise in key public health areas, enabling graduates to make significant contributions to improving population health and reducing health disparities worldwide. The programme requires successful completion of 60 credit units, which include Lecture hours, Field practicals, seminars/case studies.
