The Benjamin William Mkapa Scholarship was established to honour H.E. Benjamin William Mkapa, the current Chancellor of Cavendish University Uganda and former President of The United Republic of Tanzania. This scholarship is awarded to two students from The United Republic of Tanzania who are nominated by the Chancellor in writing and are starting the first year of any degree programme at Cavendish University Uganda every academic year.

The Scholarship covers 100% tuition and functional fees. All other costs and expenses such as air travel or otherwise from the student’s home country to the University, living expenses, (accommodation, food, scholastic materials, travel to and from the University during the semester etc.) and immigration permission shall be borne by the beneficiary.

Eligibility

The scholarship is both a need- based and merit- based financial aid option awarded on the basis of any one or combination of criteria including financial need, academic excellence, and demonstrated leadership qualities.

Eligible candidates for this scholarship must meet the following requirements:

  • A letter of nomination from the Chancellor
  • Have at least 3 Principal Passes at A-level or its equivalent obtained at one sitting not more than five years before the date of the application
  • Have at least 6 Passes at O’ Level or its equivalent
  • Demonstrate that they have the required English proficiency optimal for undertaking University education.
  • Scholarship holders may opt to study on any of the available modes of learning at CUU.

Application

Nominated applicants shall submit their application by formal letter sent by email to scholarships@cavendish.ac.ug with the required documents attached.

These scholarships are awarded for the full duration of the beneficiary’s Programme of study subject to satisfactory academic progression of the beneficiary demonstrated by attendance of at least 75% of all classes, submission of ALL coursework and maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (B) Second Class (Lower Division)

The General Gabriel Jok Riak Scholarship was established in 2018 to honour General Gabriel Jok Riak, an eminent alumnus of Cavendish University Uganda who was appointed the Chief of Defence Forces of the South Sudan Defence Forces (SSDF) a day after his graduation at CUU.

The University Scholarship Committee (USC) awards this scholarship to two (2) South Sudanese students each academic year who are starting the first year of any degree programme at Cavendish University Uganda and nominated by General Gabriel Jok Riak in writing. It covers 100% tuition and functional fees.

All other costs and expenses such as air travel or otherwise to and from the student’s home country, travel expenses to and from the University during semester time, living expenses (accommodation, food, scholastic materials etc.) immigration permission shall be borne by the beneficiary.

Eligibility

The scholarship is both a need- based and merit- based financial aid option awarded on the basis of any one or combination of criteria including financial need, academic excellence, and demonstrated leadership qualities.

Eligible candidates for this scholarship must meet the following admission requirements:

  • A letter of nomination from General Gabrel Jok Riak
  • Intent to attend classes in person at the University. The Distance Learning mode is not eligible for this scholarship.
  • Have at least 3 Principal Passes at A-level or its equivalent obtained at one sitting not more than five years before the date of the application
  • Have at least 6 Passes at O’ Level or its equivalent
  • Demonstrate that they have the required English proficiency optimal for undertaking University education.

This scholarship is awarded only to students studying at the University. (DL mode is not eligible) and is are awarded for the full duration of the beneficiary’s Programme of study subject to satisfactory academic progression of the beneficiary. This shall be demonstrated by attendance of at least 75% of all classes, submission of ALL coursework and maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (B) Second Class (Lower Division)

Cavendish University Uganda offers top first-year and transfer students who are citizens of Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, DR Congo, South Sudan and the Gambia an opportunity to study on International scholarships.

The international scholarships are partial and cover up to 50% tuition and functional fees.

Successful applicants for this scholarship can choose an undergraduate programme of study in any of the University’s four faculties of: Business and Management; Science and Technology; Socio-Economic sciences and Law.

Eligibility Criteria

An applicant for the Cavendish University Uganda Partial Academic Merit scholarships for International students must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a citizen of one of one of the countries listed above
  • Intent to attend classes in person at the University. The Distance Learning mode is not eligible for this scholarship.
  • Have at least 3 Principal Passes at A’ Level or its equivalent obtained at one sitting not more than five years before the date of the application
  • Have attained at least 12 points at A’ Level or its equivalent
  • Have at least 6 Passes at O’ Level or its equivalent
  • Pass the CUU administered English and Mathematics Aptitude Test
  • Pass an oral interview
  • Submit at least two letters of reference or recommendation one of which should be from a teacher that taught the applicant, and a second letter from any community or religious leader

Application Process

Applicants for the CUU partial international scholarships may be made either in person or on the university website here . Eligible candidates for this scholarship must have the following documents:

  • Ordinary Level certificate or its equivalent (photocopy; original to be presented on registration)
  • Advanced Level certificate or equivalent (photocopy; original to be presented on registration)
  • Testimonials
  • Passport or other valid document confirming citizenship of one of the eligible countries for this scholarship

Applicants who wish to make their applications in person shall visit the University’s Quality Assurance office at the main campus in Nsambya, Ggaba Road opposite the American Embassy.

If satisfied the Quality Assurance Officer will issue to the applicant the Cavendish University Uganda Scholarship application form for international students completion. Please ensure that the Quality Assurance Officer issues you with an acknowledgement slip upon receipt of the completed application form indicating the date on which the aptitude test and oral interview will be conducted.

Online scholarship applicants may submit scanned documents specified above online together with the application but shall be required to take original documents to the Quality Assurance Officer for verification on the date set for the Aptitude test.

The Quality Assurance Officer will contact the Applicant vide email and telephone to communicate the Scholarship Committee's final decision no later than five working days after the sitting of the Aptitude Test.

An applicant who fails the Aptitude Test may re -apply once at the next scholarship round.

Terms and conditions of the scholarship

A partial international scholar shall, during the tenure of the award, be required to comply with the terms and conditions set out in this clause:

  • Attend at least 70% of lectures for all the courses enrolled in;
  • Successfully submit ALL coursework;
  • Complete registration with the Faculty and enrolment at the start of each semester
  • Engage in at least 2 major co-curricular activities as may be advised by the Dean of students, Director of Sales and Marketing, the Deputy Vice Chancellor and or the Vice Chancellor;
  • Participate in peer-mentoring and tutoring and other intellectually enriching work- study initiatives for 15 hours a week under the supervision of the Quality Assurance Director;
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.6 and above throughout each year of study;
  • Submit a report of compliance with the provisions of ‘good- standing’ at the end of each academic year, to the Scholarship Committee through the Quality Assurance Office, to determine eligibility for scholarship for the subsequent year.

Duration of the Scholarship

The partial international scholarship is tenable for the full duration of the student’s programme of study at Cavendish University Uganda subject to the student complying with the award terms and conditions.
