Dr. Simon M. Mutungi has served as a Lecturer of Law at Cavendish University Uganda since 2021, where he teaches and researches in commercial law, financial regulation, international business law, competition law and emerging intersections between law and technology. He also supervises students’ theses and is an editorial committee member of the Cavendish University Law Journal.
Dr. Mutungi holds a PhD in Commercial Law from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, with a specialization in financial services regulation and digitalization. He is a Yale Fox Fellow (Yale University, USA) and a Mandela Rhodes Scholar. He also holds an LLM in Commercial Law (specializing in Banking and Finance), and a Masters in Development Finance from the University of Stellenbosch Business School, South Africa, including a visiting semester at Laval University, Canada.
He earned his LLB (Hons) from Uganda Christian University and completed his Bar Course at the Law Development Centre in Uganda. He is admitted to practice as an Advocate of the Courts of Judicature of Uganda and is a member of both the Uganda Law Society and the East African Law Society.
Dr. Mutungi has worked across different countries and advised a range of institutions across Africa and internationally, including law firms, judiciaries, banks, telecoms, energy companies, construction companies, multinational corporations, regulators, and small businesses.
His current publication includes several articles, op-eds and two books with Sweet & Maxwell on Aviation Finance and Liens.
