Cavendish University Wins 3rd Annual Inter-University Public Interest Litigation Moot Court Competition 2022



Cavendish University Law students triumphed at the 03rd Annual Inter-University Public Interest Litigation Moot Court Competition which was held on Wednesday, 11th May 2022 at the Cavendish Law School.

10 teams participated in the Moot competition coming from 9 Universities which included; Cavendish University Uganda, Makerere University, Uganda Christian University (UCU), Bishop Stuart University, Uganda Pentecostal University, Gulu University, Nkumba University, Kampala International University (KIU), and IUIU- (Kampala & Kabojja campuses).

Only 4 teams advanced to the semi-finals and these were; Bishop Stuart University, Cavendish University Uganda (CUU), Gulu University and Uganda Pentecostal University.

Cavendish University was ably represented by a team of 2 students namely; Nicholas Najuna and Atwine Blessed, both of whom are Cavendish Academic Merit scholars. The Cavendish team stood out with fluency, clarity of speech and the best arguments, and emerged overall Winners, beating Uganda Pentecostal University at the finals. Team CUU had the best written memorials and the best oralist, Atwine Mugisha who is also the Guild President.

The Moot was organised by Cavendish University Uganda in conjunction with the Public Interest Law Clinic (PILAC) at Makerere University and the Network of Public Interest Lawyers (NETPIL).

Special acknowledgement goes out to Mr. Godfrey Ayeranga, the CUU team’s coach and lecturer at the Faculty of Law, the Dean, Faculty of Law, Prof. Omolade Olomola; Law lecturers; Dr. Chidinma, Mr. Herman Tuhairwe and Dr. Robert Mugagga who all helped in nurturing the team to victory.
