Cavendish University Uganda Wins Inaugural Inter-University Public Interest Litigation Moot Competition

The Network of Public Interest Lawyers (NETPIL) under Makerere University’s Public Interest Law Clinic (PILAC) in collaboration with the Centre for Public Interest Law organised a Moot Court competition on 30th September, 2020 where a team of students from the Faculty of Law represented Cavendish University Uganda (CUU) and emerged Winners against competition from Makerere University and IUIU.

NETPIL was officially launched in May 2015 with the aim of promoting public interest lawyering and the pro bono spirit in Uganda. Its objective is to foster greater engagement of lawyers in public interest litigation and advocacy towards achieving social justice and greater protection of fundamental rights for all.

During the moot competition, Yolanda Vimbiso Zhuwakinyu, a student from the Cavendish University team also emerged the “Best Oralist”. Other CUU participants included; Lamin Samyang and Beatrice Mbabazi. The team was accompanied by the Coach Counsel Ayeranga Godfrey, a lecturer at the Faculty of Law, and co-trained by Mr. Herman Tuhairwe and Mr. Pius Kitamirike, who are also staff at the same faculty.

At Cavendish University, Moot trainings are an essential part of the curriculum because they provide law students with a valuable opportunity to hone both their written and oral advocacy skills necessary in the competitive field.

Congratulations to the CUU Winning Team!
