Cavendish University Uganda qualifies for 14th International Rounds of Press Media Law Moot Court Competition at Oxford University



A team of students pursuing the Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Programme at Cavendish University Uganda (CUU) was selected to participate in the 2021 International Rounds of the 14th annual Price Media Law Moot Competition which took place at Oxford University from 12th – 16th April 2021.

The online International Rounds gathered participants from countries as diverse as Australia, Belgium, Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Greece, India, Lebanon, the Philippines, Serbia, Trinidad and Tobago, Ukraine, the UK and the USA.

The teams that qualified for the International Rounds from Africa included; Cavendish University Uganda, Bowen University, University of   Pretoria, University of Malaya and University of the Witwatersrand.

Cavendish University was proficiently represented by a team of four Law students who included; Ms. Fatou Jaiteh, Mr. Aheebwa Rogers, Mr. Maseruka Sadat and Ms. Mbabazi Beatrice. The team was assisted by Mr. Godfrey Ayeranga, a lecturer at CUU’s Faculty of Law who was their mentor and coach.

The Price Media Law Moot Court Competition has been part of the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights in the Faculty of Law at the University of Oxford, since 01st August 2017.

The annual Price Moot Court Competition aims to foster and cultivate interest in freedom of expression issues and the role of the media and information technologies in societies around the world. It was established by the Programme in Comparative Media Law & Policy at the University of Oxford in 2008.

Oxford’s Price Media Law moot challenges students to engage in comparative research of legal standards at the national, regional and international levels, and to develop their arguments (in written and oral forms) on cutting-edge questions in media and ICT law.

With more than a hundred teams taking part annually, the Price Moot is the world’s largest competition in its field and is considered one of the grand slam or major moots.

The Competition is currently comprised of seven Regional Rounds namely; (South Asia, Asia-Pacific, South East Europe, North East Europe, Middle East, Africa and Americas).
