Cavendish University Uganda advances to regional finals of the 8th annual Hult Prize in response to the 2018 Challenge: “Harnessing the Power of Energy to transform the lives of 10 million people”.

The Hult Prize has recently announced the representing teams from Cavendish University Uganda that have advanced to the 8th annual regional finals of the competition.
The Hult Prize is a crowd sourcing platform for social good, named as one of the top five ideas changing the world by TIME Magazine. The innovative crowd sourcing platform identifies and launches disruptive and catalytic social ventures that aim to solve the planet’s most pressing challenges. This year, the Hult Prize is focused around finding solutions for the millions of people around the world through harnessing the power of energy.

The winning team members from Cavendish University include:

  • Tijah Igbazenda Imoter, Akile Wua Justice, Bakwa Nelson Lucas, Kalombe Kafwimbi Ignace. Representing Team Light the World.
  • Twishime Bosco, Museveni Samuel, Rita Kobusingye. Representing Team Save the World.

The team competed in the Hult Prize at Cavendish University event on 2nd December, 2017 in the 1st round and moved to round 2 where they came out victorious. They built a solution to this year’s challenge “Harnessing The Power of Energy to Transform The Lives of 10 million People” by 2025.

The team will now move on to compete at the Hult Prize regional finals in March 2018, which is being hosted in 16 cities around the world. The campus director said “everything you want is on the other side of fear, so take the iniatives and learn from every outcome”, and here our teams have really taken the initiative and they have progressed forward. – Abasiama Uduak. Ahmad Ashkar, CEO and founder of the Hult Prize attributes the success of the competition to the global youth revolution. He said, “we continue to be moved by the large number of students from the world who are harnessing the opportunity to develop business models that target those who are in most need. Following the regional finals, one winning team from each host city will advance to an intensive 8-week summer business incubator where they will receive mentorship, advisory and strategic planning as they create prototypes and set-up to launch their new social business. The final round of the competition will take place in September, where a jury panel will select the annual Hult Prize winner. USD 1,000,000 Prize to the winning team.
