Cavendish University ICT Students Shine at Huawei ICT Competition: Student Advances to Global Finals in China

Cavendish University Uganda continues to make its mark on the global technology stage. Two of our Information and Communication Technology (ICT) students; Mulondo Andrew and Joseph Amukun, proudly represented Cavendish University Uganda at the prestigious Huawei ICT Competition 2024–2025 Southern Africa Regional Finals, held at Huawei Office Park in Johannesburg.

In a remarkable achievement, Mulondo Andrew qualified for the Global Finals, set to take place in Shenzhen, China, in May 2025.

The Huawei ICT Competition is recognized as one of the world’s largest and most competitive platforms for university students. Through this competition, Huawei aims to provide students with a platform to compete healthily and exchange ideas, thus enhancing their ICT knowledge and practical skills as well as increasing their ability to innovate by using new technologies and platforms. The competition tests students’ skills in network, cloud, computing, and artificial intelligence, providing a unique opportunity to showcase digital innovation and technical excellence.

The event brought together winning student teams, educators, and policymakers, including distinguished guests such as Dr. Nobuhle Nkabane, South Africa’s Minister of Higher Education and Training who delivered the keynote address. The summit featured panel discussions on digital talent development and the future of ICT in Africa, further highlighting the importance of such competitions in bridging the gap between academia and industry.

Cavendish University Uganda congratulates Mulondo Andrew, Joseph Amukun, and their mentor, Tuhaise Robert, a dedicated lecturer at the Faculty of Science & Technology for their exceptional performance and for flying the university’s flag high on the international stage. We wish Mulondo the very best as he prepares to compete with the world’s best ICT talent in Shenzhen, China.
