The Dean of the Faculty of Business and Management, Dr Faith Ahabyoona represented Cavendish University Uganda (CUU) as a distinguished panelist at the Global DIES Web Seminar on Science Communication held on April 29, 2025.
The seminar, themed “Effective Science Communication: Perspectives on Policy, Innovative Approaches and Global Trends,” was organised by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Rectors’ Conference (HRK). As part of the Dialogue on Innovative Higher Education Strategies (DIES) programme, the event brought together university leaders, science communication experts, and policymakers from across the globe to discuss the critical role of effective research communication in higher education and public policy—especially in the Global South.
On this high-level platform, Dr. Ahabyoona advocated for the structured teaching of responsible and effective artificial intelligence (AI) use. Faith highlighted how technological advancements, such as video lectures, not only enhance distance learning but also improve the verification of academic sources—key to maintaining academic integrity in a digital age.
Dr. Ahabyoona also emphasized the vital importance of equipping students with strong communication skills about their disciplines, a necessity in Uganda where youth unemployment remains a pressing challenge. Her insights underscored the need for universities to empower students to articulate their knowledge clearly and confidently, preparing them to engage meaningfully with industry, policymakers, and society at large.
Cavendish University’s active participation in this international dialogue reaffirms the university’s commitment to fostering science communication and real-world engagement, aligning with its mission to empower students and faculty to lead transformative change through accessible and impactful knowledge.
CUU is immensely proud of Dr. Faith Ahabyoona’s contribution to this global conversation, which elevates the University’s profile as a leader in innovative higher education strategies.
