2022 International Women’s Day Celebrations!



Cavendish University Uganda invites All Staff to a physical Staff Engagement on Wednesday, 09th March 2022 at 1 PM in the Basement to commemorate International Women’s Day.

In line with this year’s theme, “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow,” we have lined up presentations from three panelists namely; Ms. Hamida Kibirige, Ms. Joan Mugenzi, and Mr. Charles Okurut who will be taking us through the topic; “Career Transition and Retirement.” The keynote address will be delivered by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John F. Mugisha.

 

Profiles for Panelists

Prof. John Mugisha – Vice-Chancellor, Cavendish University Uganda

Prof. John Francis Mugisha is the Vice-Chancellor of Cavendish University Uganda and an internationally recognized scholar in Health Planning and Management. He previously served as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs of Cavendish University Uganda and before that, the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Uganda Martyrs University.

Prof. Mugisha is a member of the National Council for Higher Education, where he represents Private Universities in Uganda, a recipient of fellowship award of the Africa Institute of Public Health Professionals, a member of the Uganda National Immunisation Technical Advisory Group (UNITAG), and the current Vice Chairman of Uganda Vice Chancellors’ Forum.

An author of several scholarly articles in various peer-reviewed journals, Prof. Mugisha holds a Ph.D. in Health Planning and Management from Keele University (UK), an MSc. Health Services Management from Uganda Martyrs University and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences from Makerere University.

Mr. Charles Okurut – Human Resources & Business Development Manager, Octagon Uganda Ltd

Mr. Charles Okurut has over 20 years of experience in Schemes Operations, Human Resource and Administration services, Training, and Finance.

 

Charles is currently the Human Resources and Business Development Manager at Octagon Uganda Limited, a subsidiary of Octagon Africa a leading financial services provider of retirement benefits, training, Scheme property management, and insurance brokerage services in Kenya, Uganda, and Zambia for both public and private sector organizations.

 

He has previously worked as Human Resource Manager at Barclays Bank of Uganda Limited, FINA Bank (GT Bank), FINCA Uganda and Malawi, and Opportunity Bank. He has been a Trustee for the Retirement Benefits Scheme of Barclays Bank, FINA Bank (GT Bank), FINCA Uganda, and Opportunity Bank.

 

Charles holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Makerere University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resources Management from UMI.  He is a certified Trustee by Retirement Benefits Authority (RBA) Kenya and Humber Centre for Employee Benefits Toronto Canada.

Ms. Joan Mugenzi – Founding president of the International Coaching Federation Uganda Charter Chapter

Joan has 385 hours of coach training and over 1000 hours of coaching, with a focus on employment transition. Whether one is getting into a new job, moving into the next opportunity within the organization, grappling with management and leadership transition roles, or planning on exiting, Joan enjoys facilitating the conversations.

Joan has trained in coaching up to the highest level of coaching (Mastery) and wholly believes in the need for people to experience professional coaching. She is also certified as a Team Coach. Joan is the Founding President of the International Coaching Federation Uganda Charter Chapter.

Joan has vast experience working with executive leaders in the NGO sector in close to 30 countries. She provided technical oversight in World Vision International health programs covering 25 countries in East, West, and Southern Africa. She has been in the motivational and coaching space for eight years, and engaged teams across various sectors in the corporate and public sectors including Banking and Financial Services, Fund managers, Local and International NGOs, Academia, Private sector, and Government Parastatals.

Joan currently serves as an Executive Coach for the Strathmore University Business School in Uganda (for the CEO Apprenticeship Programme); She is a Career Coach for the Women in News (WIN) programme, an Executive Coach for the VillageReach Global Management Team spread across Europe, the US, Subsaharan Africa and has most recently been appointed to offer team coaching in Uganda to USAID’s Policy Link project focused on growing leaders (Permanent Secretary level and equivalent) across Africa for the Agricultural sector.

Joan holds a Master’s degree in Public Health Leadership from Uganda Christian University and prides herself in focusing on the health of the mind. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Makerere University, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism and Media Management from Uganda Management Institute. Joan is an International Coaching Federation Professional Certified Coach; serves on the Coach Masters Academy global faculty spread in over 40 countries. Joan is also a Jack Canfield Success Principles Trainer; Jack is America’s success coach and Fortune 500 business coach for over 40 years whose success principles are applicable across any sector.
